Newspaper Ads

The biggest hope of finding your lost pet is "advertising." The more people who hear about the lost pet, the bigger the chance of getting your pet back home.

Step 1: Place a newspaper ad for your lost or found pet. Some of the area newspapers provide "free" lost or found pet ads to be run in their classified section. Provide the best description of your pet in the briefest format possible, and don't forget to include your contact information. If possible, list contact information where you can be reached immediately -- someone may see your pet walkiing around in the area, and if you are not immediately accessible, by the time you get the message, your pet may be gone.

Offering a reward may get a person's attention, but don't include the amount of reward -- some unscrupulous people may try to take advantage of your reward offer.

Also ask for any information on your pet, whether seen dead or alive. It's a sad fact that some lost pets don't survive their ordeal -- and as a pet owner, though it would be heartbreaking, I'd rather know if my pet is dead or still lost somewhere.

Below is a list of newspapers for Orange County and surrounding counties. It shows the names of the newspapers, mailing address, telephone number for classified ads, and if the ads are free. It is suggested that, depending where in Orange County your pet was lost, you place ads in newspapers for surrounding counties.
